Big, Bold and Bright – on day one of the Fashion Scout shows, Billie Jacobina proved that she truly lives by her motto to create 100% sassy collections. As show-goers crowded into Freemasons Hall for the first presentation of the weekend, they were greeted by a stage filled with pink balloons and a group of carefree, and not afraid to show it, models adorned in multi-coloured ensembles. The energetic bunch strolled and selfied with one another and demonstrated how fun and lively fashion can be.

This vibrant, dreamlike scene made reference to familiar fragments of a generation’s younger years through the presence of My Little Pony and mermaid ear rings as well as Hello Kitty accessories and an unforgettable troll doll frame. Rainbow hair, big pink curlers, heart shaped cushions and a pastel coloured skateboard succeeded to add spark to an already spirited scene.

Beneath flouncey tulle skirts, paired with fuscia mules, it was the presence of graphic patterns that made an eye-catching impact throughout the collection. The paint-like markings that covered a bomber and legging outfit introduced blue, rouge and tangerine shades while an indigo bodysuit teamed with fishnet tights and knee-high graphic socks brought in deeper tones. A pleated yellow dress and blush coordinate suit acted to unite the underlying pastel palette. However, it was the sequinned separates that stood out as they introduced an additional texture to the collection in a contemporary way. Billie herself has described how she aspires to be known for creating unexpected prints on a variety of materials and judging by the selection presented, her ambition is coming to life.

Since graduating from UCA Rochester in 2016 from BA Fashion Textiles: Print, the English designer has acquired numerous accolades for her work. As well as receiving Fashion Scout’s coveted Ones to Watch Award last year, Billie was presented with the British Fashion Council’s GFW Residency Award. This lead the young designer to work with Indonesian brand Lekat for three months and on to a collaboration for Jakarta Fashion Week.

With a multitude of prestigious titles under her belt already, it’s clear that Jacobina’s approach to enabling individuality with unique designs is exactly what the fashion world are eager to see more of – 100% sassy is most definitely in for 2017.
